Grants Research & Review and Scholarship Committees
Grants Research & Review Committee
Each year the Garden Club of Cleveland provides approximately $15,000  to many Cleveland organizations which closely align with our Club’s goals of restoring, improving, and protecting the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic enhancement.  Our Club’s gifts typically range from membership support at the $100 level to $1,500+ support for specific projects.

Applications are emailed in each January, and proposals due by February 28. Committee members may ask to schedule a visit or request more information about projects put forth.  A copy of the application is available HERE.

Grants Research & Review committee members meet annually in March to review all written requests from outside organizations for financial support from the Club. Committee members examine each request to determine if it supports the mission and goals of the Club and meets necessary legal requirements. The committee then decides which requests they would recommend to the Club for support and for what amount. The Executive Committee and the Board vote and present the final recommendation for full membership vote at the June Annual Meeting. Grants R&R  has supported numerous worthy organizations over many years and welcomes first-time requests as well.

The Elizabeth Gardner Norweb Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship
FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Purpose: To encourage studies and careers in the environmental field, with the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study.

History: To honor Elizabeth Gardner Norweb, ardent conservationist member of The GCC, and GCA President from 1979 to 1981. Mrs. Edward K. Poor, Mrs. Walter Marting, and Mrs. Jerome F. Page spearheaded the creation of a fund to establish this scholarship. Mrs. Norweb’s family and friends from across the country quickly responded with contributions, including special support from Shaker Lakes Garden Club, Little Garden Club of Columbus, and the Garden Club of Cleveland. The first recipient was awarded $1500 from the still-growing fund in 2004. The completed corpus for the scholarship was realized a year later, providing the basis for a continuing Norweb scholar.

Eligibility: Open to college undergraduates for summer study following the freshman, sophomore, or junior year. Eligibility is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S. - based institution.
