Fine Arts Garden
The Fine Arts Garden is a horticultural showplace of Cleveland's University Circle area and was the first community project of the GCC. The GCC conceived the original idea of a Fine Arts Garden on the five acres fronting the Cleveland Museum of Art. They raised funds, which were augmented by a small gift from the City of Cleveland, enough to secure the service of the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted as landscape architect. The plans excited the city, the Art Museum and the GCC, and a Fine Arts Commission representing all these interests was formed. In 1928, the Fine Arts Garden was dedicated.
In 1969, GCC created the Arnold Davis Memorial Garden, a lovely tree-shaded terrace beside the lagoon, on the very site of the original (now named) Cleveland Botanical Garden. The center fountain came from Mrs. Matthew Andrews' garden, as did some of the other sculptures.
Visitors continue to enjoy the beauty of the lagoon and its gardens. A member of the GCC Board of Trustees continues to serve as our representative to the Fine Arts Garden Commission.
